On the Murder of Charlie Kirk
Maybe no one has had more influence on the political culture of our country in the last four years, than Charlie Kirk—except maybe for the President himself. Surely no one would have had more influence over the next two or three decades based upon what we were seeing unfold.
This afternoon, Charlie Kirk was murdered in Utah while speaking up for his faith and the impact of his Christian values in the culture and in the political realm. At present, we do not know the motivation or details regarding why the shooter pulled the trigger. Our tendency is to jump to conclusions, but it is wise to hold our peace while we remain in ignorance.
We have little doubt Kirk was a true born-again believer based upon his public statements. As always, God knows all hearts better than we do. He was bold, articulate, and willing to speak publicly on his faith and positions. That example should challenge us all. Because of that boldness he had incredible influence on the young people of America. He would have had continued influence over the next few decades. His loss is, at present, still hard to fathom.
The assassination of Charlie Kirk reminds us of the seriousness of the debate that is going on in our nation right now. It is a battle for the soul of our nation. But it is more than just our nation, it is a worldwide conflict. The broader culture has given itself to evil for decades and the forces of evil do not give up their death grip easily.
His life reminds us of the power of speaking up, speaking with compassion, and with biblically-reasoned kindness. Charlie Kirk not only changed hearts and minds, he became a rallying point for GenZ young people that that need encouragement and hope for the future.
For all Christian leaders, Charlie Kirk’s life is a master class on how to influence young people for the faith. He let young people ask questions, any question. He responded without horror, indignation, or accusation, but with kindness and well-reasoned biblical wisdom about how our faith applies to the spectrum of society and life. Every pastor should have this skill.
We pray for Charlie Kirk’s family, and all his loved ones who will miss him so dearly. We feel such a deep loss as well, but on a completely different level than they do.
We pray for those who have worked so tirelessly for him with TPUSA. We know your hearts are broken now. We pray your mourning will turn to resolve to continue the important work he started.
Pray for our country. Pray for those who are willing to speak up and lead even at great danger to themselves. Pray for the transformation of hearts and minds through the regenerating power of Christ.
Pray and continue to stand for the Truth.
