Satan Doesn’t Want People to Be Fruitful and Multiply

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [a]moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28

This is the first command God ever gave to human beings—before any other commandments including not to eat of the Tree. It is a pregnant command that demands the union of a man and woman in marriage, the establishment of a home, and passing the command on to succeeding generations to be obeyed. In the 1980’s some argued that this mandate was already fulfilled, but a demographic collapse in many of the world’s leading nations, it only takes one generation disobeying it to utterly destroy humanity.

While born-again believers tend to look at the entirety of scripture through the lens of the gospel, we often fail to see the sociological commands that God gave as the basis for human survival. Among these are the establishment of marriage between one man and one woman in Genesis 2, and human government in Genesis 9.

The Canary in the Coal Mine

Consider the situation in Colorado and the unintended consequence of the failure to obey the Genesis 1:28 mandate. In an article on Realclearreligion.com entitled, Colorado Could Be the Parental Rights Canary in the Coal Mine, J.P. De Gance[i] points out a startling corollary regarding Colorado’s horrible law HB 25-1312.

The dystopian state house bill, HB 25-1312 or better known as the “Kelly Loving Act,” allows the Colorado government to remove a child from her parents if parents refuse to go along with her gender dysphoria and self-styled new identity. It represents the most totalitarian legal destruction of parental rights in American history.

How can this happen? How can a state like Colorado, not long ago a swing state, vote for such a destructive ideology and how have Colorado parents allowed it?

The answer is not just in the inflow of Californians to Colorado, but also in the demographics of the state. Of all the households in Colorado, only 14.4% are married households with children.

De Gance continues with this observation.

So, this evil legislation makes some political sense. The less married parents with kids in any electorate district, the more vulnerable parents and kids are to the onslaught of state power.

And given current trends in marriage and fertility rates – our future politics may look a lot more like Colorado’s politics than anyone realizes. This legal threat to parental rights will spread.

De Gance asserts that there are a number of contributing factors to this emergency. These would include the following:

Absentee fathers, because of divorce or no marriage at all, result in fathers not only not having influence but also not advocating for children in the social and political sphere.

Financially struggling custodial mothers who end up financially dependent on the same legislators who would also take away their parental rights.

Young men not even pursuing marriage because of porn addictions.

Women are now not getting married until well past peak fertility years.

Our economy makes it very hard for men to have jobs where they can be the primary bread winner, especially in some states.

The feminization of the education process so that higher education is now 50% more women than men.

Of course, popular media has presented unrealistic representations both of men and women.

We all know this. We have seen this. But what can we do about it?

De Gance makes the case that churches need to focus on ministries that address the needs of the moment. Here is a takeaway from his suggestions.

Churches need to develop young adult ministries that encourage real life relationships between Christian young men and women where they can find a life partner that shares the same values that they do. These ministries should be focused on discipleship so that the marriages that result produce godly Christian relationships.

Church must encourage purity relationships where young men especially, but women too, can get victory over pornography, and sexual promiscuity through spiritual formation and education.

Churches need to put their money where their priorities are. They need to be willing let their annual budgets reflect these ministry priorities.

He also reminds us that political activism is necessary to defend the rights of parents and families.

This should be the beginning of a conversation for fundamental churches about how we might more effectively address these issues. If we don’t do something, we will lose everything.

[i] De Gance is the director of Communio which describes itself as “a nonprofit ministry that trains and equips churches to share the Gospel through the renewal of healthy relationships, marriages, and the family.” Care should be taken regarding the definition of “gospel” since this ministry seems to be primarily Roman Catholic in its bent, although it does work with some protestant churches.
