Podcast Interview 05: Cosmetic Surgery in a Plastic Age

We present another edition of the Proclaim & Defend podcast with an interview of Pastor Ryan Martin based on his article in the January/February edition of FrontLine entitled “Cosmetic Surgery in a Plastic Age.”

We’re all familiar with news about one actor or another undergoing multiple cosmetic “procedures.” We even hear from time to time of some less prominent people who seem to have overdone it with cosmetic surgery. For most of us, the idea of cosmetic surgery seems quite distant to us.

We might not deal directly with anyone involved in these kinds of surgeries. Yet the philosophy of many who are involved, both practitioners and patients, raise questions Christians need to think about. Ryan Martin says in his article,

“Some contemporary Christians seem to assume that God has little concern with what they do with their bodies, but Christ’s ownership of believers’ bodies directly opposes the modern spirit of bodily autonomy. Believers may not do as they wish with their bodies. Every decision about our bodies should be made under Christ’s lordship and His eschatological interest in them (1 Cor. 6:15).”
