How to Worship an Omnipotent God

Yesterday, in worship, we focused on our Omnipotent God.  When we meditate on His omnipotence we usually think of the immensity of His power—creation itself, the vast power of the universe—as Paul calls it “His eternal power and Godhead.”  But His power is just as marvelous when manifested in seemingly small things like the power of answered prayer, or the power to change a life and give victory over sin.  Those things are the more personal manifestations of His power that draw us close to Him.  It’s His power manifested in the trials and troubles of life.

A mixed ensemble sang near the time of the message.  My wife later remarked how important it is to be part of a church body.  As the group sang beautifully of God’s power and love for us we were even more moved because we have known the singers for years.  We know they know, by experience, the marvelous love and power of God.  We have seen it in the transformation, joys, and trials they each have faced.  It showed on their faces and voices as they sang.  Such thoughts fill our hearts with amazement and move us to tears of gratitude to God for the manifestations of His loving power in so many individual lives.  The music alone could not accomplish this.   This is what true worship looks like, and this is why the local church is God’s place for its corporate expression.
