As you know, Dr. Rod Bell is now with the Lord. He led the FBFI for over twenty-five years. Anyone within the FBFI or influenced by the FBFI is well aware of his tireless labor, exhausting travel, and enthusiasm for the Lord and for Fundamentalism. The Bells made many sacrifices during those years, and since Dr. Bell stepped down in 2003, they (like many retired ministry couples) have lived very frugally with an entirely new level of sacrifice. As a final tribute to the Bells, we have an opportunity to give them a lasting memorial by helping them with a grave marker.
Years ago, the Bells secured their burial plots at Woodlawn Memorial Park across Wade Hampton Blvd. from Bob Jones University where Dr. Bell will be buried on Saturday, October 8 at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to the interment. For those who have not heard, the funeral will be on Friday at 2 p.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church, Oakwood, GA. Woodlawn does not allow headstones; all graves are marked by bronze memorials set on granite bases flush with the ground. At the funeral, we will be announcing that the FBFI is raising funds for a large bronze memorial marker for the Bells.
Since the Bells chose their memorial design and received a quote on its cost, the cost has increased significantly. But if we will give to this, the beautiful marker can be made and set in place within 8-10 weeks of payment. I know this will be a sacrifice for FBFI members or churches, but it is a lasting tribute for a man who gave himself unreservedly to our cause. Of course, I plan to do all I can toward this gift and I am asking you to join me. When I purchased our grave marker after my late wife passed away, I was shocked to learn how expensive they were three years ago. Now the cost has increased by 50%. Our goal is $7200! Will you prayerfully consider what you can do right away and let me know that you plan to participate even if you need some time to send in your gift. If you would like to give to this fundraiser, you may use the “Donate” button on the FBFI website, send a check to the address below, or call the FBFI Home Office with a credit card number. This will be a great blessing to Lenore and the Bell family. I look forward to hearing from you.
