A Kingdom that Cannot Move

What does the Brexit vote mean to you? Or, closer to home, what about the prospect of an unindicted President guilty of gross negligence, among other things? Or a President with seemingly no moral scruples? If you are a born-again child of God, it shouldn’t mean much at all.

Today the Wall Street Journal headline pronounces, “Investors Shaken as U.K. Votes to Exit EU.” While investors and voters may be shaken by this development and other bewildering world events, remember that we live in a transitional world that will never rest until Jesus comes to establish His kingdom. Hebrews 12:28 reminds us about this more important headline:

“Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved [shaken], let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.”

Since you are looking forward to a future kingdom governed perfectly by Jesus Christ forever, how should you respond to the uncertainty that marks our present world?

  1. You should continue to seek grace from God, depending upon Him to enable you to live a consistent, peaceful, fruitful Christian life, regardless of the headlines, Brexit or otherwise.
  2. You should serve God in the way that pleases Him, refusing to let the cares of this world pull you away.
  3. You should worship God, with deep respect for His power over all things, even in this uncertain era.

Have the headlines distracted you? Have you forgotten to ask God for the grace you need to live with unshakable confidence today? Have you fallen away from faithful gospel ministry? Has your reverence and awe for God diminished as you take in the turbulent, overwhelming headlines of world events?

Get your focus on God and His kingdom. Don’t let world events distract you from His unshakable kingdom.
