A Supremely Stunning Decision

Matt Recker

In their 5-4 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges on June 26, 2015, the highest court now imposes a nationwide mandate that redefines marriage for all fifty states. Our highest court has redefined what they did not design and the consequences will be far-reaching in the days ahead.

Here are some thoughts on this stunningly, supremely bad decision.

  • Biblically, it demonstrates a stunning rejection of God’s clear definition and design of marriage that is a union of a man and a woman.
  • Morally, it demonstrates stunning spiritual hubris that has historically precipitated the demise of previous civilizations (Genesis 4:19).
  • Socially, it is a stunning demonstration that our Supreme Court Justices are really chief social scientists, and with proud willfulness and with no fear of God they mandate their morals to us.
  • Legally, it is a stunning rejection of our democratic form of government as the judicial branch of government is now performing the duties of the legislative branch.

Genesis 11:6 is analogous to our present condition: “And the LORD said … this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.”
